SURGE is planned around the bleeding trauma patient: stopping the bleeding you can reach, replacing what is lost, and protecting physiology until surgery.

Tourniquets, junctional haemorrhage control and pelvic binders
Balanced blood product resuscitation, tranexamic acid and calcium
Permissive hypotension and the limits of crystalloid
Leading the trauma team through the first hour
